Main access road to Raystown Lake Dam gets much needed upgrades
River Road is the main access road to the Raystown Lake Dam and receives heavy traffic during the summer months from fisherman, sightseers, kayakers, and people hoping to catch a glimpse of our very own bald eagle population. River Road also connects Corbin’s Island, a popular party and picnic area. Over time, the heavily traveled road surfaced deteriorated becoming laden with pot and obstacles that made the roadway very hard to travel at times.
Juniata Township was awarded over $200,000 in grant funds for improvement of the roadway. The Huntingdon County Conservation District provided over $12,000 through road materials to match their part of the grant.
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. was awarded the bid to complete the project. They add over 15,000 linear feat of DSA, a mixture of crushed stone specifically designed for unpaved roads. The project should be completed by week’s end.
